The 22nd edition of the annual Diamond Awards for Media Excellence will hold on Saturday November 23 at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel.

The event will reward Nigerian journalists and media organisations that have distinguished themselves in various spheres of journalism practice. Whilst calling for entries earlier in the year, DAME had invited entries in 30 categories. It is not clear how many will be awarded that night as DAME is not bound to award any prizes in categories its panel of judges is not convinced merits one.

For this year 21Nigerians, six women and fifteen men, served as judges. Drawn from the rank of seasoned academics, media administrators and veterans, they include Professor Nosa Owens- Ibie, Head, Department of Mass Communication at Caleb University, Dr. Bisi Olawunmi of the Department of Mass Communication, Bowen University, Mr. Feyi Smith, Executive Secretary, Newspaper Proprietors' Association of Nigeria, Mrs Agbeke Ogunsanwo, retired permanent secretary and former editor at the Daily Times, Mr Femi Kusa, former Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, and Mrs. Wale Sokunbi, Editorial Page Editor of the Sun.

Others are Mr. Muyiwa Adetiba, former Editor of Sunday Punch and Vanguard, Mr Muda Ganiyu, former Editor of Nigerian Tribune, ace photographers Tam Fiofori and Victor Agunbiade, Mr Emiko Aruofor, managing director of Pulsar Advertising, Mr Joseph Afolabi, Managing Director of Extrabold Consult, Mr. Ben Lawrence, former Managing Editor of Daily Times and columnist with TELL, columnist Ms Bunmi Sofola, Mrs Tinu Odugbemi, former chairperson of Lagos NAWOJ, Ms. Victoria Ibanga, former editorial board member of Daily Champion, Mr Gbolahan Gbadamosi, former Judicial Editor of the Guardian, veteran actor and broadcaster, Mr Taiwo Obileye, former broadcaster, Ms Effiom Asuquo, radio host, Mr Jimi Disu and Mrs. Nkechi Ileka, a trained education administrator.

First held on March 20, 1992, DAME has been in the vanguard of crusading for enhanced responsibility by bestowing awards on deserving individuals and organisations. To, date it has inducted 434 names into its hall of fame.
