WINNER OF THE Radio Reporting

Solomon Adebayo is a delightful reporter who knows the value of diligence and perseverance. With his performance tonight, he is the most successful reporter on radio, having won five DAMEs: 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014 and now 2015.

To win in the Radio Reporting category this year, Solomon Adebayo entered an investigative work on the trafficking of a sixteen year girl aired on the network of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.

The story is a pathetic story of the teenager who was suddenly declared missing, only to discover that she had been forcefully trafficked to Libya by a neighbour, whom the family had taken as a family friend. In many ways, the story evinces the sad reality of child trafficking in the country today.

Rather than be satisfied with breaking the news of a girl who suddenly went missing, Adebayo followed through with the story until the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIF) rescued the teenager, whose dream of pursing her education would have been cut short prematurely.

Adebayo, currently Head of the Investigative Reporting unit of Radio Nigeria, holds a 1995 Bachelors of Art in English Language from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a 2007 Diploma in International Broadcast Journalism at the Thompson Training Centre.

Until his engagement with the FRCN, he was Production Editor, Fairway Pictures (2000-2003); Sub-Editor/Proof Reader, Diet Newspapers (1997-1999) and English Language Teacher, Ekiti Parapo College (1995).
