CITATION OF TONY EGUAYE, WINNER OF THE ACTION Photography Category of the 25th DAME
Tony Eguaye’s “Public toilet being a living home for the homeless” is a scathing social commentary on the plight of the homeless in Lagos. It depicts the conversion of a public toilet to a home in sheer desperation to call a place a home. The photograph shows an assemblage of household utensils and clothing hung on protective iron grills as two boys idle around in blissful ignorance of the health hazards their environment portends. The shot demonstrates an alert photographer with a social conscience.
Eguaye, a senior photojournalist with New Telegraph, is making his debut on the DAME Hall of Fame.
