LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDEE AT THE 16TH DAME

He is the Uncle Sam whose doors welcome all. He is the easy-going man, widely regarded as the oldest practising Nigerian journalist. Born June 13, 1935, he has held all the important positions in journalism as reporter, features writer, sub editor, features editor, editor, editor-in-chief, managing director, and proprietor. Now in his sixth decade as a journalist, he remains a relevant voice in the quest to reposition journalism for contemporary times. He has had the good fortune of establishing two successful newspapers: The Punch and Vanguard. He is the life patron of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria. As testament to his standing in the media, two volumes of a book have been published in his honour, Voices from Within: Essays in Honour of Sam Amuka (2005, 2015).
