TENACIOUS NIKE POPOOLA
Winner, INSURANCE REPORTING, AT THE 24TH DAME

Five years ago, Adenike Popoola won the Insurance Reporting Prize at DAME. In the next four years, the Insurance prize was given only once because the judges were not satisfied with the quality of entries. But this year, the story has changed. Adenike is repeating the feat of five years ago.

A 2003 graduate of Economics from the University Of Ilorin, Adenike worked as an audit trainee at an Accounting and Consulting Firm, before joining The Punch Nigeria Limited as a senior reporter in 2007. Her winning work, “Sick Health Insurance Scheme Leaves Patients Helpless” exposes the underbelly of the National Health Insurance Scheme where beneficiaries enrolled into the scheme are denied access to health care services. The report highlights the current lack of confidence between health care providers and Health Maintenance Organizations under the NHIS as a major militating factor stalling the ability of the scheme to provide quality health care services to enrolees.
